Children won't always tell you if their shoes are too tight or too big, mostly because they may not even know the difference. As a result, it's important to get kids' shoes fitted on a regular basis to help prevent foot conditions like bunions, hammer toe or fallen arches.
Stride Rite is making it a little easier for parents to do this by offering free events at Dillard's stores through Feb. 21, where kids can have their feet measured and parents can get tips on choosing appropriate footwear for their little ones.
"Fit matters because a child's foot is not fully formed until their teen years, and the most critical foot development occurs in the first seven years," said Sharon John, Stride Rite Children's Group president.
Bunions are known to develop in kids – especially girls – around 11 years old, though these instances are not common.
The Bunion Aid by Alpha Orthotics is adjustable to fit feet of all sizes. Additionally, it's made with an award-winning hinged design to make it more comfortable to move around while correcting deformities like bunions and hammer toe.
